2016 / 2017: Years...Recap

I almost updated this a few times but then figured I'd just wait until 2 years after the last post I made. And I only remembered to post today because my sister made me these awesome custom skate decks for me for Christmas. Emilee rules.

We are still a band but things have obviously slowed down.

Lately...Albert has been playing shows and traveling with his other band Cat Signs. Nathan put Conheartist on hold and started a solo project called Inner Space Visitor. And I've been traveling / working on stuff with my dads, Eighteen Visions ever since they reunited earlier this year. Cody Andrews played his final show with us on July 13 last year and our longtime friend Cory Blaine has joined us on drums as of a few months ago, it's been rad.

After Cody left, Michael Backer from the San Diego band Globe & Beast stepped in and learned a bunch of our songs in under 2 weeks and we were still able to play a show with letlive. Both Ian and Michael played their final show with us in Arizona on the Zao tour. Their leaving wasn't planned or due to any drama, life stuff just happened. Anyways, Michael rules and I'm forever grateful for him...he was driving from SD to OC a few times a week for us. He's a great drummer and I'm glad we've become closer friends from the year we spent playing together. All the Globe & Beast guys rule, check out their album on Melotov.

In short, Ian's been living in Oakland these past few years and it's been difficult for us do our regular practices / accept last minute offers. No fault of his, he's always exceeded expectations and made the effort to drop everything at a moment's notice from us, but it wasn't fair to him or practical. He's going to be releasing music soon with his new band Pure Hex in the Bay Area, we'll post it here when he does.

We just finished recording some new songs with sensei Rollie Ulug last week, those will probably be out before I update this blog again. In holiday tradition, here's the shows we've played and haven't posted about yet....

We didn't get to play this show.

Usually, I wouldn't mind and all of us would probably just go get food or something since this show was so close to home. But, finding out we couldn't play this show was the catalyst to a meltdown that had been building for 2 years in my head and I snapped in front of everyone. Embarrassing.

Reason for my meltdown: After a really good 2014 and first 2 months of 2015. Things started to go downhill within the band and in my personal life. We were turning down all these big tours and shows, our agent's patience was wearing thin. The guys were more focused on their other bands, I got a surgery, work was overwhelming, and my mental health wasn't doing so well. All this shit and more. But it all added up and I decided in that moment that I was done playing in Seizures. Done wasting so much of my time and money on a band that just stressed me out. So I grabbed the microphone after I found out we weren't playing and said some shit about punk time and openers playing for 45 minutes with encores. I don't remember what else I said to everyone standing around but I knew the second I started speaking, I wish I didn't. Luckily, it was like 10 seconds of ranting and I just shut the fuck up and left. But I hated it lol. Like a day or two later, Jason from letlive. texted me asking if we wanted to open their show in a few weeks and I wanted to be in Seizures again. Sorry everyone.
